I have flown several times with my fitbit hooked to my bra. Never even thought about it and never had a problem.
@Nathaniel I just put it in the plastic container with my purse whenever I fly, and I've never had a problem. There's no valid reason at ALL to take it. I have a horrible feeling some TSA agent wanted a new toy.
@Nathaniel and Elizabeth. I'm now nervous! Im flying this weekend out of NH with my Fitbit and I dont want it taken lol...I'm now wondering if I should put it in my bag when I get to the airport... eeeek. Maybe Ill luck out and just put it through the scanner with everything else and it will be fine.
@Elizabeth: I know, right! I fly every week! The fitbit went through the machine. I got it back when I was back in the airport a few days later. The guy only took about 4000 steps with it too. When it was taken, it was an "Unauthorized Device." When it was returned, it was because it had a "suspicious chemical agent" on it. This week, I used a different security line.
Oh my gosh! I just joined this site because of my Fitbit less than a week ago. I can't believe I won! How exciting! Congrats to all the other winners and way to go to everyone that participated!
Nathanial, TSA should not have taken your FitBit. There is no reason to do so any more than with any other electronic device. I fly a lot (I'm A List on Southwest) and as long as my BodyMedia band goes through the x-ray everyone is happy. Sometimes I forget and wear it when I walk through the thingy. It should have gone through the scanner, but that's it.
This was my first Challenge. Does anyone know when they will give out the 20% off code???
wow good deal! I love my fitbit and like you I do not go anywhere without it. the other day I forgot I put it on the base and thought I threw it in the wash with my clothes and panicked like you wouldn't believe
I lost my Fitbit somewhere while I was working on Saturday night. I contacted Fitbit customer service by email, and they replied and are sending me a new one free of charge!!!
I flew with my BodyMedia device for an Easter visit to my grandparents. At the Huntsville, AL security, they asked me to take it off just long enough for me to go through the fancy scanner. Coming back, the Shreveport, LA, security didn't ask about it (and I didn't even think about it).
I've worn my fitbit through security at the airport. No one noticed. at least you got it back :) @Nathaniel R
This is my 6th challenge, but my first to get over 360 points. What a great week! Congrats to all who participated.
@Scott O: I feel your pain. My fitbit was taken from me by the TSA on Tuesday of last week. When I returned on Thursday, the battery was dead and the guy still had it. He gave it back to me and had only logged 4000 steps. We'll pick it up and knock out the next challenge, right?!?
Scott O: I have started to leave mine on top of a lamp I must turn off before I leave home. I usually wash it out if it is dirty (the strap part) and this lamp is just warm enough to dry it. As a bonus, since I must turn the lamp off, I am forced to look at it before I leave. Just in case.
